Love this! I also grew up Pentecostal and experienced the same intensity for revival. Praying the Daily Office in the BCP, spending time most recently as a confirmed Anglican, and setting my life to a more regular spiritual rhythm has been so fruitful. Now, I find myself ready again for a loud, dramatic, powerful revival, but this time not as the center for my faith but as a catalyst for a life long walk with God.

I learned about William J. Seymour and his premature death at 52 in 1922. I do not know if you are a Holiness Pentecostal, but I see you as such. The story of the Road to Emmaus is far more pleasant (you are the second apostle) than the horrifying 1 Kings 18:20-40. Yikes! Elijah's name is invoked at the weekly Havdalah rite that marks the end of Shabbat, and Elijah is invoked in other Jewish customs, among them the Passover Seder and the brit milah (ritual. Ouch. His kerfuffles with Kings Ahab and Ahaziah indicates he suffered from mishegos. I enjoy reading your thoughts and learning from them. Thank you and a happy and healthy 2025 to you and yours.
